Extreme times call for extreme measures. And what we are seeing in the world right now calls for a change. A shift in the way we see ourselves, others and the world. Fallacies come down, stereotypes are broken and what we are left with, as we are conditioned to think, is our poor humanity. Poor and weak human beings that are not able to do any better in this strenuous world.

A change is called upon, but not to victimize the human being. Instead to go back and explore what really means to be human. When we identify ourselves with the roles we play, the color of our skin, the language we talk or our social status, we are neglecting the basic premise of being human. We think of ourselves as the name we were given, the educational degrees we have gained or the gender we displayed. We have been conditioned to think we are different in order to be genuine. As a result, the natural sameness that should be essential to our beings has been put in second, if not last, place. We are not aware than at the base of all, we are human.

Going back to the basics takes us to the premise that at the most basic level, we are human, and we are all the same, no matter what. To recognize our own humanity, we need to feel human. To feel is to be. To feel human is to be human. Being human is being aware of the connections between ourselves, others and the environment we inhabit. We are used to think of our body as a fragmented system. Randomly, we think of it as a system in synergy of the same parts that complete different functions. We forget, that at the most basic level, the cells that make up every organ are the same. The cells that make up our brain are the same as the cells that make up our liver, stomach lining, and anus. They only differ in function. Similarly, it is the interconnectedness between body, mind and spirit. We are constrained to appreciate them as parts of a system, a unit called human. And as part of a bigger system, the humankind, we failed to see ourselves and others as parts of the same unit, planet Earth. Which as a part too of a bigger system becomes a galaxy, and within many galaxies, the universe. All and each connected by a power, a force, a thing. The name is not important, but the discovery. Discovering the connection between ourselves, others and the world.

It starts with us. It has to begin with the human. Unless we are able to recognize we are human, and that this is a human experience designed as the platform to learn about ourselves as humans, we would not be aware of our connection with others and the world around us. We can only admire others' humanity when we have experienced our own. And to do so, we have to go back to the basics and explore the sameness, the interconnectedness and how it feels to be human. Because at the most basic level, that is all we are. At least in this experience.
